A Diverse Set of Wines in Honor of a Visiting Friend (Los Olivos, CA): I added this to the lie-up as a tip of the ate to its recently departed winemaker. Slow-ox'ed for about 6 hours. To me, this wine is just stuck. No perfume. I found it compact and dense, almost unyielding, with modest fruit and no complexity to speak of, though it was not corked as best we could tell. Chunky tannins. I know it could develop with time, but somehow I just don't see it.

ten years since my last bottle, and still the same thoughts, great potential and certainly wasn't bad in any way, but this needs at least another 10 years... I guess its my fault, cuz I have always said good Barolo needs "bare minimum 20 years", and this bottle is only now 20 years old, biggish / bold packed but not yet ready is my take, certainly four-square on this night... 92 for now, betting 93-94 with lots more age

Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2023 Edition; 10/20/2023-10/22/2023 (Piedmont, Italy): A good 8 years since we had this last ( Papies 90) and albeit a beautiful bottle it’s left us wanting more. The pedigree, the terroir and the vintage should have delivered a lot more than a 92-93 and granted this is youngish still , still it should have been a lot better. We would suggest one ages this a bit more as for now the wine only delivers but a glimpse of what we wanted it to . The wine is pretty good but at this level we wanted so much more. Andreas 91 / Nicoletta 93 > 92

Piemonte - mature Barolo & Barbaresco (at my home): very good to excellent - it had it all.
can drink now - or age further.

Tannins are still pretty strong and harsh, acidic and high alcohol. Would benefit from decanting for a couple hours.
