Medium ruby with a hint of garnet around edge. Medium nose of red cherries, herbs and damp earth. A palette of sweet candied cherries with medium acidity. Mostly primary flavours with a touch of damp earth. Medium plus finish. This still has a long way go and will reveal more. According to Kramer "Santenots are traditionally long lived and earthy, vaguely coarse quality". I would have to agree. Lovely Volnay.

Opened late last night. Excellent polished dark ruby. Good minerally red fruit nose. A little shy. Slightly candied. Palate is more forthcoming: juicy, fine tannins, nice piquant, slightly dried cherry. Has a chewy texture that is attractive. Long finish. Very nice for the vintage. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.
