Very nice deep purple colour. A full nose, witch reminds me of black currants/cherries, with a peppery after nose. A full mouth, that follows up on the nose. A tad bit short in mouth which is why I give it a 89. I will buy this one again to share with friends.

WSET blinds; 5/15/2017-6/11/2017 (Chicago, IL): There's a moderate amount of black fruit on the nose, with a slight bit of earth and olive. Not too meaty or profound, this is a lighter example of Northern Rhone. The palate shows a touch of blood, but is otherwise again quite light and veers towards the red fruit more than black. The tannins are still grainy at this point.

Dusty black fruited nose with brine and olive notes. Brisk, bright acids sit at the forefront of the palate, giving lift to the otherwise dark and brooding fruit tones: blackberry, blueberry, currant. The structure seems to be coming entirely from the acids, it shows tense at the moment. Some smokey notes are coaxed out with air. Dusty, blue-toned finish that ends on a very “syrah” note before submerging into a lithe “rainwater” outro.
Very Good 89-90 Pts

Northern Rhone night at Chez Simo (Chicago, IL): An absolutely serviceable bottle of St. Joseph. A nice, sort of darker, red fruit character here, with lots of bright acids and freshness. Touch of florals and plenty of black peppercorns. Leans towards the polished style rather than rustic, but a wine very true to type. You get some reasonable density and power here as well. I wasn't blown away by the quality, but you're definitely getting your money's worth.

Love these wines. This started out with some nice dark fruit, but fruit receded with air and gave way to tons of olive brine-y character and a general savoriness, with a slightly bloody component. Would like to see a little more fruit, but I think it will come back with time.
Not at all heavy, but definitely a little weightier than a Gonon. I prefer that little bit of weightiness in my Syrah.
