From a well-stored bottle. After throwing a bit of age-funk it turned out to be a very nice wine, displaying a medium body, slight northern rhone character amongst some slightly candied blackberries and black cherries. Tannins were smooth and resolved but acidity was actually quite firmly present. Probably past it's best but enjoyable nonetheless. Drink up.

Single Blind Syrah Showdown (Chateau Taylor): Fabulous color, rich, well-integrated nose, mint and dark fruits on the palate with drying tannins on the finish. I put down "French for sure" and several of us had this pegged as the Hermitage but it in fact bested the Hermitage by a good margin. Bravo to these guys, I'll be looking for more of their stuff in the future. My #2 (by a very close call), group #1. 14.1% alcohol, held it marvellously.

Vibrant nose with hints of violets and dark fruits, great mouthfeel and an intersting finish with floral notes. Really good Syrah in my opinion and it is interesting to read older comments. I wonder if it just took awhile for this wine to come around? This drank well on its own and went very well with a diverse selection of hearty foods as there was plenty of fruit, spice and acidity to make for a well made wine.
