15% abv. Dark ruby, very aromatic. Ripe plum, black raspberry, cinnamon, white pepper and mint highlight a deep, long and balanced flavor impression. Excellent focus with a nice savory element. The fruit is still very much alive in this wine, should continue to please for at least the next decade or so.

This was stunning, though more 'Zin-like' than I recall when tasting this at the winery. Bright, but intense, cherry and dark red fruits with a sweet/bitter/sour interplay. Lots of spice, bay leaf, and pepper, that spoke to Northern California coastal origin. Medium bodied, but oh so slick, with gorgeous tannins and the right acid ping. Long finish of pepper and cherry. Delicious with beef cheek.

Deep violet hue. Aromatically striking, with dark fruits & black cherry aromas accompanied by complex notes of anise, Thai basil, menthol, black pepper and autumnal foliage. Moderate to moderate-plus body...substantial, yet elegant. More black cherries on the palate, more herbaceous complexities as well. Racy acidity adds a perception of minerals on the lingering close, which is furthered by structured tannins. So fresh and transparent, this is a beautiful wine that's wonderful now but will age far longer than most -- serve this to anyone who doubts the "seriousness" of Zinfandel.

Really late lunch – blind esoteric and not so esoteric wines at Q by Peter Chang (Q by Peter Chang - Bethesda, Maryland): Expressive, totally different, new world. Ripe raspberry fruit, cherry pie, a hint of oak and earth. Very grenache and new world, my guess is top priorat. I just didn't imagine anyone had Zinfandel in their cellar. Very modern and opulent but not hot.
