  • It wasn't without some nervousness and worry this bottled was brought before us. 1976 was a mediocre year in Piemonte at best and there is a element of gambling when putting your money on a Barolo from this vintage. Cantine dei Marchesi di Barolo did however produce a pretty substantial amount of bottles with a lot of quality (taking vintage difficulties into account) and this bottled really showcased just how lucky you might be in this roulette de vin.
The maturity is just exquisite and on the nose we get a potpourri of rum casks, vanilla, dried cherries, fresh cigarr and leather.
On the palate, there is so much freshness and lively acidity, with excellent length. Wild cherry, long pepper, pipe smoke and notes of malt. There is elegance and balance here and I would strongly suggest that you open this vintage up sooner rather than later, while there is still vibrancy to be had.
