13x Pinot Greatness: Tasted side by side with the Donatsch Privee 2013. After a few dormant years, the regular Unique 2013 (94pts) is again open for business. It’s layered, precise, elegant but still a bit young. The Privee (96pts) showed fantastic with more of everything, so much aromatic density, superb precision and a perfect balance. In the context of this larger tasting, one couldn’t spend enough time with it to experience it in its totality and in ever detail. I suppose that once mature this could become a perfect wine.
TN: The nose shows beautifully mature and layered with soil, herbs, dark red berries, some red berries, toasty notes and stems. On the palate very layered and clearly younger. Superb, round, satin-like tannins. Very light and airy but with good aromatic density. A wonderfully harmonious wine. The same aromas as on the nose with again this luxurious slightly burnt sugar notes as the highlight.
Decanting: A few hours of slow-ox, not decanted. No decanting necessary.

During a Pinot blind tasting dinner. Complex nose with blue fruit, earthy and spicy, complex. The palate is still young and tannins still need to melt a bit.

No notes taken. Wow! At the age of 10, this wine is really entering a first, fantastic peak drinking window. Compared to a few years ago, this is now open for business. Expressive, very, very layered with superb precision. All the oak has been integrated and this now shines with a perfect Burgundian elegance, a weightless feel, high aromatic intensity and tension. This 2013 is among the best Swiss Pinot Noir I’ve ever had and should develop further over the next 2 decades.
Decanting: No decanting needed.

No notes taken. Tasted double blind. It has been a while since I’ve tasted this last from a regular 0.75 bottle. A magnum last year showed completely locked and I didn’t open one of these because I feared the normal bottles to be in shutdown mode too but this bottle was opening and singing! A broad array of dark red and red berries, herbs, earthy tones, spices, minerality – everything was there, especially on the palate (the nose was a bit more muted). The structural frame is impeccable. This should without doubt continue to improve for another decade or two.
