It's exactly what you want your high pedigree Cali cab to be. 2.5 hour decant, fine tannins, very good fruit, integrated enough that 15.2% doesn't stand out at all. Still quite primary so given my less-than-ideal storage I feel it can live for another 5 years easy.

Wow. Beautiful floral aromas burst from the glass. Amazing. The pedigree of the wine is uncontested, but the wine maker knocked it out of the park. Awesome results by Kirk Venge. Deep dark garnet in the glass. Grippy tannins almost a decade later. Acidity is fresh and lively. Dark fruit flavors of blackberry with a hint of cola and cassis. Long, memorable finish. Wow.

Despite 8 years of aging, it insisted on an hour in the decanter before unfolding, so that experience was similar to other recent notes. After that, graphite, red fruit, occasional burst of cherry, with a medium weight finish that was fairly astringent, but paired beautifully with some rich Mt. Tam and NY Blue cheese.

This was the WOTN.....no question. Nose of lead pencil and dark red fruit. Balanced from the beginning. Ok at the pnp. Better at 1 hour of air, some tar up front, a bit of bitterness and blackness sets in at 2-3 hours. Clearly this is great fruit and great winemaking by Kirk Venge. There is a silky, shimmery component in the glass. Mid weight in the mouth. Nice finish of fruit, acid and tannins. This could go a while longer as it has a certain astringency the others lack tonight. Think 3-5 years minimum.

Not yet integrated, but still pretty interesting. Try again in 3 years or so.
