Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 91.2 points

  • Kleur: Licht oranje-roze. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 91/100

Colour: Light orange-pink. Aroma / bouquet: Intense and complex bouquet with accents of red berries, orange peel and a hint of vanilla. Taste / Aftertaste: Full-bodied but at the same time fresh and mineral rosé, with a fresh and juicy, some lactic acidity, round and filmy at the same time. For a rosé almost atypical complex with clear traces of wood ageing. General / potential: Brilliant rosé that will have a permanent place in my cellar from now on. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 11 + Taste / Aftertaste: 17 + General / Potential: 8 = 91/100

  • Best Bottle Monday with Friends (Carlton, Zurich): At first the nose was quite muted but it was instantly clear that this is not your ordinary Rosé. With time the nose became better and better, climbing from new high to new high. Clean, medium+ to high intensity, very fine and balanced with melted butter, oaky toast and red fruit. On the palate the same red fruit, some floral hints, toast, fine butter notes with a good structure with medium- acidity, medium- alcohol, good intensity and depth, fine texture, and a long nice sweet strawberry finish.

This was the best Rosé wine I’ve ever had. I can say this with 101% certainty as I never drink Rosé (or never since my youth). But it was indeed fun to drink this wine. The precious aromas and the finesse make this wine a joy to drink. The highlights for me where the intense nose, a very good balance and the pure sweet finish.

A quick word of advice: when you open a bottle give it at least 1 hour of air in the decanter. It improved dramatically with more time in the glass.

  • Monday Bouteille (Carlton Restaurant, Zurich): A dry rosé with medium+ acidity and hardly perceptible tannins. Not being a fan of rosés, I was impressed by the flavour complexity this one had to offer with good precision and a surprisingly full body. The colour was pale and light salmon, so light in fact that people at the table wondered if it really was a rosé. Fairly long finish but with a bit of excess acidity unfortunately and the complexity drop-down to the palate was somewhat underwhelming and couldn't keep up with the stunning and delicate nose. Roses (or better: rose water), some citric notes but also mandarin and nectarine were supported by a pleasant smokiness. Ultimately wondering now if a short 15-30min decant would have boosted the experience even further? This being a rosé, the price tag gives you an immediate eye seizure – but quality backs up the price to a pretty large extent I found. Looking forward to tasting Chateau d'Esclans' other wines! I realize I'm above consensus here with the score but I think it is deserved. Go try!

  • Champagne BBQ at the Papies (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Very elegant rose, soft, delicate and very pretty. Good aromatics albeit a touch lacking on the palate if we are to be critical and lacks the depth of the old vines this comes from. We like the story and the hype albeit the 3x price from its sibling the Rock Angel is a bit too much and maybe forces people to be critical of it and less appreciative. Solid 90 and more of a statement wine
