Central Otago pinot noir with a bit of age seems like a journey to nowhere especially for a wine which is always approachable from the first day of release. The most subtle bricking on the rim; very little sign of aging. The bouquet is, relatively speaking, autumnal: the first whiff is forest berries, then dark spicy plums, forest floor and thyme. The fruit has matured but kept a bright and primary acidity, which to me is slightly out of balance with the structure of the wine (an expected ingredient of NZ pinots). Soft and rich plum turns quickly into slightly sour and acidic fruit. On the finish, a hint of mocha. There is some length and some richness. No regrets in giving this some time and it's not about to fall off. The question remains about the maturing fruit in relation to the acidity which is not, to my palate, working its way into the fruit.

I was impressed with this wine, far better than others I tried this week. Had a very correct nose, a soft style, but not flabby. Very good for an emerging area.

Dark red/purple hue in the glass with a lovely nose of black cherries, vanilla, red berries, spice and herbs. In the mouth it's rich and lush with sweet red fruits and herbal flavours. Fairly low in acidity with soft tannins and a medium length finish.
Day 2 - didn't taste anywhere near as good as on day 1, with the fruit mainly showing and a jammy, highly extracted mouthfeel with some heat showing on the finish. Lacked subtlety or elegance. Much better just popped and poured.

Violets, spice and cherry to the nose. Palate is decent, clean and bright with some structure for aging over the next 5 years.

Fruity, hints of raisin and strawberry, lovely with rack of lamb and sweet potatoes
