  • Enjoyed another mag of this over two days; the Chambertin (rather than their Charmes, Mazis, Latricieres,..) is consistently the fuller, more complex and age-worthy of their bottlings; always more reliable in magnum over the various vintages I’ve tried, especially the ‘83, ‘89, ‘99 and ‘02. This was further apparent to me when the family generously poured several older vintages for a small group of us going back to the 1937. In a great window right now. 93+

  • Brought this (en mag) to a friend’s place for dinner. This was another great showing, paired great with rack of lamb. 94+

  • This wine shows that Camus actually can produce splendid gran crus (though erratically and not nearly often enough). Since they never make hugely wrought, extracted wines, their VERY basic winemaking style seems to have matched well with this vintage. Tame tannins and fresh acidity elevate this wine with attractive mature fruit, sous bois and rich earthy character. Quite happy to have another half dozen mags of this left as I have no idea whether 750s would show anything similarly. 94+

  • Drank from mag. Earthy forest floor with a few raisins and dried cherries hidden beneath the soil. Robust, resolved tannins start to form on the palate before a bitter cedar finish brings the wine to an abrupt end.

This tastes nothing of its terroir, but is still a decent pinot noir that has survived almost 30 years of aging.

While the chambertin name is misleading, for a mag that was a bit over $100 after tax, this ended up working well with a pan seared duck magret breast.
