Tasted at Chateau Talbot, wine #1. Second wine of chateau, made in honour of its first owner constable Talbot. Made from average of 30 year old vines, a blend of 64% Merlot and 36% CS, aged for 15 month in oak, 15% new barrels. Deep ruby colour. Medium intensity aroma of smoky cassis, earth, hint vanilla, cherries, herbal and pencil lead hints. Medium+ body, fresh and rather fleshy with earthy and smoky cassis flavours, vanilla hints, medium+ acidity and very fine smooth tannins.

Delicious! Full of ripe dark berryfruits with some sweet oakspice and (after one hour in the open bottle) sous-bois and a touch of mint. With its medium body, silky-soft texture, overall balance and respectable length this is a beautiful and elegant second wine with lots of St. Julien personality. As with many 2015s it is easily accessible now. Good enough structure is there but I would drink the wine within the next 5 years. Recommended as an inexpensive, quite classy restaurant wine.

Pnp which is not ideal as this pretty much shut down after only 15 minutes of air. Really masculine tannins on this. Dark berries, plum, very noticeable salinity. There is so much structure here that I think this is meant to be kept for a decade. There is enough fruit and complexity to last. This is a serious second wine but I think it will always be a second wine if you know what I mean. Priced fairly given that and it is still an enjoyable bottle. Overall I do not regret trying it and may restock for occasions that would call for this. Score: 88. Relative to expectations: +

Blackcurrant and oak notes opened up nicely after about 2 hours decanting... Is this a second wine? I was impressed!
