Such a harmonious, balanced wine right now. It has richness and complexity, but in a very graceful way. It will certainly last a while, but I don’t think it needs more time to improve.

Uncorked and serially tasted over the ensuing two hours, this well-cellared bottle required an hour to fully express itself. Deep ruby in color, the wine ultimately releases an intense aromatic profile of earthy black cherries, dried cranberries, licorice, baking spices, espresso and cocoa. Medium-bodied, fresh, judiciously oaked and with nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 14.9%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, buttressing them with plentiful sweet tannins. Solid in the middle and long on the back end, this is a New World expression of the grape that is a joy to drink. Well-cellared bottles will hold up longer than previously projected. Drink now-2027.

Rich, full bodied Pinot with well integrated tanins and balanced acidity. Ripe red fruit (cherry and dark berries) with a savory finish. Well paired with leg of lamb.

Starting to fade, has definitely moved to tertiary territory with fruit subsiding and more earthy flavors blossoming. From magnum.

I had this wine last year and rated it a 96. I have always found Altamont to be a very good wine. Must have just been an off bottle.
