This was tasted as part of a group tasting loosely based on 'Bordeaux and Environs' as an example of a wine from the interface between areas basing their wines on Bordeaux grapes (Atlantic) and those based on Rhone grapes (Southern France). The mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, and Grenache produced a wine that was unusual, interesting and attractive. After 6h, this showed good, fragrant fruit on the nose with lots of spice. The palate was full of attractive, slightly 'sweet' fruit with good balance and attractively soft tannins. Good on its own and with food. 88+

Still a little raw - I reckon 2-3 years might make it more interesting, though I doubt it's one to age even a decade. Acidity is a little light, though some grip from the faint tannins and some nice (Cab Franc?) leafiness.

NobleRottersSydney - Blends night (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 13.5%} [Kim] A very new world blend of cabernet, merlot and grenache, although I don’t think cabernet and grenache have ever worked terribly well together. Bright cherry and cranberry nose. The palate has an earthy quality mixed with a must and dirt character. Medium acid, with low/medium powdery tannins. Composting red fruit flavours emerge eventually. But it’s still a bit musty. Light/medium body; fades rather quickly on the palate. For the short term, and with food.

BBQ at Dorneywood House with Philip Hammond et al. Limited note taking. Needed time to breath (initially very raw fruited) but improved noticeably throughout the lunch time gathering broadening out and accompanying the BBQ food well. A bit undefined (hardly surprising given the Heinz grape varieties involved) but very gluggable after catching its breathe. Another year would do this wine a favour. For your 2018-2020 summer BBQs. 87+
