Pop to the pour. Bottle 4 of 6. It's been nearly 14-years since I visited this wine, and many years it's been from since the old regular visits to Napa were squashed out. Back then, of this the WE editor wrote, "...only Napa makes Cabs this balanced, rich and ageworthy..." Uhh huh, right. I think they marked this as classy or classic because it was thought to be more austere than some other bombastic vintages, like 1994, 2004, etc. I'm glad Silverado didn't go too far with this wine, and while the obvious oak influence (probably 100% new) is a hard wall to get past, it could be so much worse. The wine's fruit is still juicy and reasonably fresh, though some signs of aging is certainly on display in the bouquet with a tertiary pruniness mixes on the plums, cherry, and tar. Mouthfeel-wise, the wine is in balance and there isn't a problem with the alcohol outstripping the fruit. Some latent tannins paint the teeth. This is full-bodied, but on the lighter side, especially for mid-2000's Napa cabernet. I've dug out three bottles of this Solo to make room for more worthy, or age-worthy, wines (the bottles second as a bludgeon). I'm glad these wines are still drinkable, if not entirely the wine I want to be drinking. These certainly cry for a bloody steak, which is also not the food I want to be consuming. But, credit where credit is due.

Glass of plum color wine, hint of bret, black and red cherry fruit with a touch of dusty earth, more of the same on the palate, tasty, rich cabernet fruit, touch simple, touch rustic, medium body, and medium/long finish with pleasant aftertaste. Tasted over two nights, slightly better the second night.

As many of the comments suggest, this wine never really loosened up for us. Perhaps we were just impatient and should have let it sit in the cellar for a few more years, but the tannins still overpower the fruit. It went really well with grilled rib-eye steaks, roasted potatoes, and asparagus but unlike nicely balanced Cali cabs, this one really *needed* the food.
Don't get me wrong - it is a nice wine but there are better, younger ones out there.

Nice dark color, smooth but a bit lacking in anything special. Not much fruit forward, smooth finish. Drank over two nights, with food and without, did not notice any improvement overnight. Not bad but Perhaps the bottle, will try another in a month or so, but probably past it's prime drinking range.
