  • A blend of 73% Syrah and 27% Grenache. Fourteen years out and it still shows primary in the glass with red cranberry at the rim and blackberry at its core. The bouquet wakes up immediately with dark cherry, brown sugar, blueberry, rich tobo, and smoked meats. The flavor profile tracks the bouquet, but vanilla comes across on the finish, but not too heavily. The balance of the wine impresses. This still has years ahead of it. Some slight sediment. 15.1% alc. From magnum. With beef burgers under onion rings at Ironwood with the Sheets, Smileys and Dods. Recommended.

  • My last bottle of this vintage bearing a blend of 73% Syrah and 27% Grenache. It still shows its primary red cranberry color. By color alone, it would be difficult to say this has 9 year of age to it. It still sings with bright cherry, blueberry, tobo, and black cherry flavors - each distinct and clean. The finish is a tad heavy on the vanilla. The prior notes of brown sugar have now long faded away. Balanced and hitting its stride, now is a good time to begin drinking these instead of finishing off the last of the bottles. Some slight sediment. 15.1% alc. With chili (beef and pork). Recommended.

  • A blend of 73% Syrah and 27% Grenache, but the ripe cherry flavors might make you think the blend carries a higher percentage of Grenache. While the fruit is forward, this is no fruit bomb. Blackberry and cherry lead with an earthy smokiness, brown sugar and coffee filling out the finish, which is clean and rather long. The tannins are not fully resolved yet. The fruit should last long enough for that to happen. Some sediment is now beginning to precipitate out. 15.1% alc. With cheeses and bread. Recommended. (Notes taken from the notes on the bottle just prior to this one.)

The tannins are not fully resolved yet. The fruit should last long enough for that to happen. I don’t know what the acidity level is, but it the sensation that it leaves is a bit sharp. Prior bottles have not had this note; bottle variation perhaps, but I don’t know what might cause it. Some sediment is now beginning to precipitate out. 15.1% alc. With cheeses and sausage. Recommended.

  • CORKED!! Not opened at this time, but can smell the TCA taint from a foot away from the sealed bottle. The wax seal and cork wreck on opening 071710. (Rebecca Work will forward another magnum in October.
