  • Nothing has changed with this since opening a bottle almost 2 months ago. But it deserves a note. The wine is that good. A G-S blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache (varying form vintage to vintage, of course) that packs a QPR punch. Black plum, black cherry and blackberry on the attack with brined black olives, kalamata olives, orange zest, a touch of tobo leaf, and smoke. A good, solid everyday (or maybe more) wine. 14.2% alc. With crusty bread and cheeses (Stilton, Moses Sleeper, truffled cheese and others) with country ham and olives. 01.12.24. Recommended.

  • This is a consistent G-S blend (70% Syrah and 30% Grenache for this vintage) that delivers so much more than you might expect. The nose is packed with black fruits (plum, black cherry and blackberry) with added notes of brined black olives, orange zest, tobo leaf, rosemary and smoke. 14.2% alc. With leftover pork tenderloin, assorted cheeses (including Roaring Forties and Moses Sleeper) assorted olives (green, black and brined). 11.17.23. Recommended.

  • Dual note on both 2015 and 2016: This is a consistent G-S blend that could almost be considered as Ampelos’ proprietary signature label. It is a reliably consistent bottle that varies a little by the vintage, but always has a commonality between vintages. The 2015 is 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache while the 2016 consists of a 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache blend. The nose on both wines are wonderfully perfumed with black fruits including plum, black cherry and blackberry, brined black olives, and orange zest. The 2016, however, has a distinct spiciness to the nose that the 2015 does not. Could that be the extra shot of Grenache? They share a distinct commonality on the attack tracking the nose, but with the added elements of tobo leaf, cedar or rosemary and smokiness. But again the 2016 has an extra punch of cardamon and cinnamon. The juxtaposition of shared qualities and distinct individualness makes for an interesting comparison. The 2015 packs 14.2% alc. while the 2016 is 14.1% alc. With assorted cheeses (including truffle and Stilton) prosciutto wrapped sweet potatoes, assorted olives (green, black and brined). 11.04.22. Both Recommended with the edge going to the 2016.

  • Excellent Thursday night wine. Light bodied, great acidity, nice lean fruit. Gulped it down with pizza. Purchased from Garagiste? Will repurchase.
