  • From what was once an inky blood red rim has now become brick while the once opaque core is now burgundy. Blueberry compliments blackberry on the nose while black cherry and black olives add layers to the bouquet. They all find room to add a line to the profile, but blackberry leads the cast from attack to finish. Surprisingly, the cigar ash from prior bottles doesn’t appear in this one. The mouthfeel is a touch lighter than usual too. A blend of 72% Syrah and 28% grenache. Heavy sediment. 14.5% alc. With blue cheeses (Stilton and Roaring 40s) and crusty bread. While the wine is a bit odd from its sister bottles, this remains “Recommended.”

  • What an amazing wine this has become over time developing depth and complexity that the first few bottles only showed but a hint of future promise. Inky blood red on the rim and nearly opaque at the core. Blackberry jam and brown sugar with a touch of molasses carry the attack with elements of strawberry, cigar smoke and vanilla. A blend of 72% Syrah and 28% grenache. Heavy sediment. 14.5% alc. With cheeses and crusty bread. Recommended.

  • PnP. Talk about sediment! There's probably only 700ml of wine in the bottle...the rest is sediment! But the wine in there is worthy of attention. Medium ruby in color. Super ripe nose of dark blue/red berries with a hint of cedar. Not much in the way of leather or bacon. Seems like more Grenache than Syrah, but its actually the other way around (72% Syrah/28% Grenache).

Very rich palate with completely resolved tannins. The mouth watering acidity keeps it lively. Would be great with food...really wanting smoked BBQ ribs with this!

Enjoyed in a Riedel Vinum Syrah glass at 59F.

  • Good/Very Good. Big Rhone blend; more Cotes du Rhone than Ch du Pape, but still full of red fruits, herbs and earth. Pairs well with steak or grilled chicken.

  • For 3 and a half years, I’ve managed to keep my hands off my few remaining bottles of this. Patience has been rewarded. Blackberry and molasses lead the nose with notes of caramel, strawberry/cranberry, cigar smoke and sweet vanilla continuing to fill out the bouquet and profile. While this tastes similar to its profile several years back, it is richer and fuller with some excellent bottle sweetness. Drink now or hold, but holding will be hard to do. A blend of 72% Syrah and 28% grenache. The sediment is now heavier. 14.5% alc. With the Smileys over ham biscuits, cranberry sauce (best pairing), bleu des Basque, blue goat cheese, black olives and crusty bread. Recommended.
