Acker "Paulee" Burgundy Dinner (Capital Seafood - Beverly Hills CA): An old, tired wine. Too bad - perfect color and fill, but with an odd story. I had flown with this bottle today, and when I removed the capsule, there was no cork to be found. I am assuming the flight’s air pressure caused the cork to fall in, but there was no leakage. The wine should have been good with that strange story.

Impeccably well stored at 47 degrees since acquisition upon release. Perfect fill. Opaque with little sign of ageing at the rim. The deception of Burgundy. Coats the palate, but somehow seems lacking in weight. Not the elegant delicate type of pinot noir that tops my list, but a seriously mouth filling pinot noir a bit perhaps a bit on the black fruit side. Very much reflects the domaine. Never aspired to produce world beating burgundy, always aspired to, and delivered, really excellent burgundy. The hallmark of this wine is not elegance or complexity, it is generosity. After a few hours, raised this from 94 to 95 because the length of the wine is quite extraordinary.

The '85 Lignier Clos St. Denis vastly exceeded my expectations for this domaine, representing both vintage and vineyard delightfully. A sweet bouquet of ripe red cherry, rose petal, rich soil and subtle spice introduced a supple, expansive wine with melted tannins enrobed in juicy pristine fruit.

(Georges Lignier et Fils Clos St. Denis) Brown rust color; mature, mushroomy nose with sweet framboise note; tasty, tart, mature, smoky, dried cherry palate; medium-plus finish

A middling bottle. Drier fruit than this wine can have and a somewhat muted nose. That being said, still quite well balanced and reasonably enjoyable

Balanced expression of CSD. Well done in the context of the domaine.
