I have enjoyed Lewis wines for some years, but this bottle had a pronounced stewed fruit character. It was not flawed and you could make out a few the great Lewis qualities, but it was funky/unbalanced. Perhaps it was picked late. It was up against a 2005 Carraudes de Lafite, which was the WOTN.

Had it decantered for two hours alongside a Dominus 03 & 05 over a Tomahawk dinner. The fruit, softness and texture was quite right. Not overly heavy and it was my favorite of the night.

Damn, this was good. Jammy blackberry, black cherry, and boysenberry fruit. Well integrated flavors of dark chocolate, licorice, coffee, cracked pepper, and subtle leather notes. Still has a rich mouthfeel to it and a nice firm tannin structure to it with a tremendously long finish. Just a beautiful wine after 15 years.

Maybe a little past it’s prime, or maybe it was the cork that disintegrated. The wine was still deep ruby color and very big, but lacking the same smoothness and structure as years past.
