Kinda rating this as though it’s in its own special category of perfectly enjoyable but ultimately mediocre (which I mean in the best possible terms) aged Bordeaux. This is a bit wan at this point but still gives off all the classic flavors of “ok” aged Bordeaux - no fireworks but it’s good quality. Almost like a decent impersonation of a decent 90s Pichon that I might order from a wine list and be somewhat disappointed by because it was good enough but I was wanting more. For the $75 I paid 2021 I’d say that’s a compliment and a job well done for this Croix.

This is a rare case where a second wine behaves like a mini version of the real deal. A delightful bouquet of saint Julien masculinity with a perfect mix of barnyard, tobacco ,and cedar wood. The lack of fruit brings a wine that is serious, and at its best. The firm acidity will keep this fresh for at least 5+ years but there’s no remaining material left for conversion. Fully mature and all Bordeaux! DRINK

(Château Ducru-Beaucaillou Croix de Beaucaillou) Vanilla, oak nose; tasty, tart cherry fruit with big tannins; a little dry and austere on the shortish finish 90+ pts.

Wine of elegance! Beautiful ruby colour in clean transparency! Gorgeous aroma of leathery red fruits! A medium finish! At its best!
