Pale maroon in glass. Intensely aromatic nose of cherries and dried strawberries, improved progressively over 2 hours. On the palate, crunchy red fruits, spice, black tea. Light to medium bodied, could not feel any tannins. Very drinkable, the only thing to mention, I felt was that the spice was a little overpowering at the beginning.

Kumeu River Round Table (Knightsbridge, Northbrook IL): Nose: There is a bit of reduction immediately on the nose, but with some swirling it pulls back into dark red cherries, raspberries, violets, roses, earth tones, plums, dark red berries, and a touch of tobacco. There is excellent complexity, but it does lack a slight bit of depth.
Taste: Medium bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. The feel is well balanced and lithe with dark red cherries, raspberries, violets, earth tones, plums, and tobacco.
Overall: This is an excellent, though quite young, Pinot Noir. There is good complexity and balance with a sour side to the red fruits. It does need some air right now, but it will be better in 3-5 years.

Sunday blinds (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Dungy and poopy, and not the pleasant Burgundian kind. Seems to be the product of a bit of post-modern winemaking with its bit of carbonic, lightly candied fruit, and attempted glou-glou nature. I guessed that this was some sort of gamay, but I really didn't like this enough that I had really stopped caring at this point. Like Ramonet trying to make reds or Mugnier trying to make whites, I think Kumeu River should just stick to one colour of wine (hint: not red).

Hautes-Côtes nose, in the best sense; darker, more fragrant than the village; a little darker and more together. Good intensity, some crunchy elements.

Smoky and earthy on the nose. Reductive hugely.
