Not my style. It's good, but it has too much red fruit and tobacco, to the detriment of the meaty, gamy, smoky characteristics I like to see in Northern Rhones. Color is very dark and opaque and the nose smells tarry, so perhaps it just wants more time to reveal what I hoped it would tonight. Don't get me wrong; this is certainly not a bad wine, and it is worth the money, it just didn't exhibit what I thought it would. 5-12-17-8: 92/100. (I failed to decant this or give it hours of air, so that might explain some of the above.)

(at Mastro's - NYC) Didn't love the restaurant, but this bottle was singling. Great fruit, balance and Northern Rhone signature. Big but not heavy. Long finish. Really impressive. Drink or hold. (95)

Commanderie des Costes du Rhone - Jean Luc Colombo dinner (Executive Dining Room): From a magnum. The alcohol is more apparent here but it was a hot vintage. Get the darker fruits and a bit of the spice and maybe now some floral as well (more in the background). Drinking next to some of the wines with a bit more age - give it time.

Nose: Blackberries, yoghurt, leather, eucalyptus, roses, mint.
Palate: opens fruity, turns savory and medicinal quickly. Low acidity, iodine?
