Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Appealingly named "She Wolf". Well sheltered south east exposure 70 year old vines on granitic slope. I don’t drink many modern style wines and - rightly or wrongly - I still associate Jean-Luc Columbo with this style. Evidenced by the extremely refined tannin. This is Cornas after all. Show me some gusto. And there is surely some new wood. I noticed this more and more with each sip as I typically do. By the second glass I really taste it. To its credit this is well flavored and not a blockbuster and has good length. You can see the site (La Cote apparently) - at least in this vintage - has some underlying elegance. If you like the style this will surely have a lot of appeal. But it’s not for me. Its very pleasant but too well mannered and refined to be authentic Cornas. Which raises all the questions about what defines quality in wine. Either way, I would wait.
