  • Opened to breathe for 1-2h. This wine needs lots of time to breathe for the black fruit, blackberries mostly, to show up. The palate and nose have distinctive vanilla from the oak treatment which lends a heft to the barbera. Very tasty and easy to drink, even if it comes across as a more medium bodied "serious" expression of barbera. Otherwise, consistent with my previous note. My last bottle. I'd say this has approached (or is at) the end of its drinking window. Tonight with grilled chicken.

  • First let me say this is a hefty barbera, lots of new oak in the nose and palate, bright cherry notes and acid too, more typical of the grape. I’m thinking this is reaching its design life and should be enjoyed now. It’s very smooth, sophisticated and easy to drink. After an hour of exposure to air, the fruit intensifies, now black berries and blue berries, with vanilla, tar, and alcohol notes too. 91/92
