  • Delightful wine, elegant yet powerful, violet, a range of fruit, silky and powerful tannins and a long finish. What’s not to like?

  • Was somewhat muted at opening, gave it a one hour decant then poured back into bottle and brought to a tasting. Luckily it was drank last and had the chance to continue evolving in the bottle because it turned into an absolute beauty of a wine. Very floral, aromas of violets, blackberries, anice, full bodied on the palate while remaining light on its feet and easy drinking. Will continue to improve with time but its already great.

  • Opened for 3 hours. Color is deep garnet. On the nose: Pepper, cassis, blood/iron, black olives and a hint of sour funk. Really a classic Syrah nose. On the palate: Violets, pepper, cassis, beef blood and raspberry. This is brilliant. It’s clearly young with decades ahead of it but this is a gorgeous Syrah. Syrah from the Rhone is my absolute favorite wine and this is a great one. I have a mixed case of Rostaing from both 2015 and 2016 so I am going to enjoy seeing how they evolve over the next decade. My dream is to spend a few weeks in Lyon and Rhone valley in the next few years and try wines from all the Northern Rhone Appellations where they are grown.

  • Tasted blind along with the 1998. A fruit profile dominated by dark berries, dried tobacco and a fresh medicinal touch. A nicely juicy palate with good tension, grippy tannin, dense and packed with flavors. The precision of aromas, overall balance and breadth are highly alluring and hard to resist, even if it’s clearly early days for this wine. Likely to out-live the 1998 by decades.
