Bromley Wine Circle does Northern Rhone - 2nd November 2023 (Beckenham): Lots going on. Outstanding cork for the age of the wine. There's a lovely smokiness to the nose here, some hints of Bonne Maman figue violette jam, some stollen notes too. Palate is cool fruited and delightfully together, if served blind, I would have guessed half its age. With air there a layer and layer more aromas emerging. A little spearmint, some banana leaf and a little raw steak. Really good stuff.

From a perfect looking bottle, this wine had a deep red center with some orange at the rim. The medium+ intensity nose was interesting from the first pour. However, it became more balanced and complex with a couple hours of air. It offered up crushed cherries, licorice, roses, and smoked meat.
In the mouth, the wine was big. It was a little funky at first and performed around the 90 point level. However, after 5 hours it had big fruit, substantial but rounded tannin, firm acidity, and great length.
This wine was impressive and appears to be in the early stages of its drinking zone. Give it at least 5 hours of air before consuming. Will it improve in the cellar? I do not believe there is any downside risk for 10 years easily. However, I doubt it will improve.

Burg Dinner with Friends (The Milling Room- New York NY): Decanted an hour before serving. Very barnyardy aromas that never really softened. Black cherry flavors are mature with spice, earth, roasted meat character, and overall far more attractive than the wine's odd nose. Enjoyable, but more interesting than really fun.
