  • Tasted this alongside ‘13 vintage of Zema Family Selection Cabernet and ‘15 Merite Cabernet

The Zema’s took 24hours to open up , good but the mint is off putting compared to the Merite which is so much more pristine in aroma and flavour . The Zema were also oak dominated , probably too early to drink as from experience they seem to take 10-15 years to really integrate

Colour med density Ruby Garnet purple crimson hues clear edges 15/15
Nose med intensity red and black fruits , violet florals , eucalyptus mint , cassis , hint of chocolate and liquorice , tobacco , oak spice vanilla good complexity and balance 28/30
Palate full bodied , more red than black fruits , dominated by course tannins at this stage overpowering the fruit , dry shortish finish 40/44
Overall Nose is the best part ,I think Zema use to much new oak and for too long , I think this wine spends 24 months in oak and it dominates the wine , OK if you want to keep it for 20 years but who does that anymore 8/11
