  • We ordered the bottle with dinner at Trattoria Bada Ganzo in Volterra (they serve great local food!). The wine was very dark garnet in colour and looked youthful. It was floral and jammy on the nose, with cherry, caramel and sweets. On the palate the full-bodied wine was a little jammy, with violets, some cherry, some chocolate, and some spices. Immediately after opening the bottle the wine tasted slightly alcoholic, with a sandy, rough mouth feel. It came around the alcoholic sensation with air, but remained edgy and rough on the palate. All in all the wine was O.K., but lacked depth and elegance. We had the Avignon’s Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Grandi Annate 2006 and 2007 the other day and they killed this bottle of Fattoria del Cerro. I would probably not buy it again, regardless of its affordable price. 87+

  • High hopes for this wine were ultimately dahsed!..Very chunky on the palate and the acidity seemd out of balance to me. Not a pleasent wine to drink either with food or without and also seemd to fall apart in the decanter really quickly....was totally gone by end of day 2 which surprised me.

  • Served this with a mushroom risotto and beef tenderlion dish last night. i was cooking, so didn't take notes, but this went very well with the dish. High acid to start on its own, but opened up with the air and the food. Medium bodied, well balanced, not flashy but nice flavours and a good food wine. It should last a few years yet (A-).

  • This remains a very good QPR. I poored this alongside its "big brother" Antica Chiusina. Although very similar in style the latter gained depth and complexity during the evening. Nevertheless this is a very good wine, perhaps even a little more fruity than the special cuvée.
