Yep, it’s a THIRTEEN year old Pinot Noir! Spicy in the nose with a bit of that Carneros AVA “funk” (which I love). Good fruit and acidity and bright red fruit. I’ve got five more of these, so I’m glad it’s drinking well.

This wine is in wonderful shape right now. A good deal of funk on the cork when first opened, but 90 minutes in the decanter has more than taken care of that problem. Good acidity and balance, with plenty of aromatic red fruit still remaining. Surprisingly long finish. Although the Chardonnay we have open right now pairs a bit more perfectly with ahi tuna and cilantro aioli, this Pinot Noir pairs very well also. The only bad news is that I am down to my last bottle of this but thankfully, there are plenty of nice Pinot Noirs still camped out in the cellar. :-)

Delicious way to end 2010... Strikingly similar notes to those I wrote in 2008. Only difference now is slightly more developed nose, still showing fragrant red fruits, but the vanilla & cedar notes have integrated much better now and have really smoothed out. This is drinking great right now, but could still age well for another few years.

(Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir The Famous Gate) Medium red color with clear meniscus; rich roses and tart cherry nose; tasty, solid, cherry and red fruit with rose edge and rosehips toward medium finish

Lovely Pinot. A mouth full of red fruit with soft well integrated tannins. Recommended.
