Praelum Partners Dinner (Praelum Wine Bistro): Medium ruby, with some rim variations. Very strong rose and vanilla, both on the nose and palate, and some black cherries, grass, and smoky peat. Fruits get slightly candied towards the back, and had a pretty good persistence. Good wine, but might need a couple more years to round down the tannins

Dark fruits, hint of herbs & spices, nice acidity, hint of green stems. Med bodied. Restrained oak. Food friendly, not heavy at all. Fruit is present but restrained, may not please those who prefer fruit bombs.

On tasting there was nothing appealing about this wine. After writing my notes I was left wondering what it is about this wine that I don't like, finally the answer came to me - it is (unfortunately) totally lacking in charm.
It is bone dry, with virtually no fruit sweetness at all, except a slight hint on the finish. Blackberry fruit, medium to high acidity, so at least it is typical of the Baga variety. Tough tannins, medium body, medium concentration. I left it to breathe for several hours - no improvement. I am convinced this will not improve with age as it does not have the fruit to give pleasure as the structure mellows.

Nice nose - new leather, slight yestiness. Feisty and grippy with good red fruits and acidic spine. Way young. Great body with flexibility with litheness for a young wine. Very good. Finishes off with a little mocha and tar.
