David’s 1999 Cote de Nuits (Lorne, London): Bright mid ruby. Nicely mellow., soft and rounded. A little more line with some air. A savoury edge for some interest. Quite harmonious. Very decent. ***1/2

nose: soft and nuanced nose of brown spices, dark red cherries, earth tones, bits of dark florals and a nice touch of cinnamon spices to boot. excellent depth and expression on the nose as it comes off as a mini-clos vougeot
taste: really good tannins and medium+ acidity still persist. Well balanced tones of star anise, brown spices, dark red cherries, and dark berry tones.
overall: like a mini-clos vougeot right now. This needs a good 5 years to fully come around. Presently, this is a very well balanced young 1er that is still primary, but is starting to drink in that stage right now as it adds tertiary characteristics

(Bertagna Vougeot Clos de la Perrière) The colour is quite similar to the 2001, medium cherry red. Despite an impressive depth of black fruit the nose is less giving than the 2000. Obvious fat on the rounded palate with well covered tannins and perfect acidity. Not quite the burst of fruit on the finish that you'll find on the 2000, but this is a wine biding it's time. Will be super - together with the 2002,

David's 1999 Côtes de Nuits 1er Cru, Village by Village Horizontal (Lorne Restaurant, London): Plum and mulled spice nose, later some blueberries a spot of polish and some cranberry juice tartness. Palate compact but not as drying as some. Later some sweet cherry comes through. Good effort by 4th favourite of the night.

Leiden tasting February 2010: Spicy, earthy nose with red fruit. Taste very smooth, silky, full with fruit and spices.
