40 minute decant. V - Clear w small bits, near deep garnet, medium meniscus and high viscosity. N - Almost cab like in that the fruit is muted and there is butter, smoke and cedar. Some raspberry, blueberry and maybe even light plum. P - has power swith mixed dark fruits, aged oak flavors, cedar and smoke. S - Full bodied. Fine/med+ tannins, with Med+ length and complexity. My last of these.

Great report from CaroledJay on palate. Everyone wants to drink zin out of the gate but Clay does a fabulous job with Jack's, Uncle and Black Sheep (in particular) vineyards. This Jack's is smoking right now. This is what zin can be given the proper treatment

Nose of fruit, both red and black.... and deep, and plenty of spice. This has matured nicely. Palate is more blackberry and black currant, with coffee, cocoa, forest floor and a touch of smoke. Long finish. Tannins are medium/fine.

With lamb chops, the crispiest, crunchiest roasted potatoes, and broccoli. Normally with lamb, I'd want a syrah or petite sirah, but wife wanted Zin with her lamb. And this was really gorgeous. These Jack's Cabin bottlings are just terrific--not that it will ever compensate for the loss of Cemetery as a Zin vineyard. This is nicely structured, like a Bordeaux, but a little softer than a Cab-heavier wine. Blackberries, plums, but also starting to get a little more character of leather, leaves, some nice dusty notes. Beautiful stuff--if you like Zin, Rockpile is the place to go.

This is very good Zin. Still has a lot of life, but is drinking beautifully. I wish I had more than one bottle.
