Notes of varnish and acetone so somehow this bottle might have had VA. Rustic with acid and tannin evident and not enough of everything else to make it work. This was just an off bottle or not a great wine. Other 2005s I've tasted recently have been much better.

Dîner de Noël des anciens C&S (Restaurant Bagatelle): On a fait le tour d’Italie et de France, le pinot se faisant discret derrière une structure tannique assez imposante. à l'image du millésime. Un vin extrait et puissant, imposant, j’étais sur un Barolo! Le vin a une bonne profondeur, dans un style austère. C'est bon mais il manque de charme, un peu trop de mâche pour son bien. 91 pts

Tasted blind. Quite deep color, some evolution. Spices, dark fruit with a rustic, tannic side to it. Not particularly elegant, like so many 2005. I wonder whether this vintage has been over-hyped after all.

1 day old sample in test-tube vial. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of beefy meat, woody spice, dark red cherries, black cherries, dark stony minerals. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), chewy high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, dark red cherries, blackberries, salty savoury roast meat, black moss earth, underlying dark stony minerals. Long structured finish. Masses of substance. Built to last. Very good quality. Again another one of those 2005s that will need a lot more time...

A lot of funk on the nose at first but this dissipated with air. The nose and palate on this seemed slightly older than I’d expect for a 2005. Good but didn’t blow me away.
