Wine needed decanting and about 90 minutes of airtime. After the hour and a half, then it was really showing great. While I normally find Columbia Valley wines to have a thin mineral backbone, this one proved strong with ripe purple fruit that balanced well. Definitely needs air.

21 Grams Vertical: 2005-2016. (Home, Portland OR): 21 Grams Vertical: 2005-2016. 3 hour decant, and definitely needed it. The tannins and oak were almost overpowering (same w/2016), and the fruit was massive. Black cherry, raspberry, dark chocolate, black tea, oak, oak, oak and vanilla. Needs more time or a longer decant to be more enjoyable, but has the potential to be a knockout in 5-10 years.

Needs some air but proves to be drinking great after 20-30 minutes with active aeration. Terroir is different from what I expect but solid and balanced.

The wine was full-bodied to a fault. Plummy and jammy like an early 21st century Shiraz. It had a sweet, port-like quality. No structure to speak of, lacking tannins or much of a finish. Enjoyed it without food, but would not pair it with anything beyond cheese or snacks.

Still young. Sit on this at least two more years.
