  • Root Day - Cork sound, wine ingress about 1/2 way up cork. Decanted off virtually no sediment (a couple of hard flakes about the size of a dime). On the Pop and pour it has a browning core and rim. The nose is warm with spice, cigar tobacco, licorice root, old leather, damp earth, dried red flowers and dried red fruit. On the palate it’s very smooth with fully resolved tannins, medium acidity and medium weight. The flavours are dried red fruit, mushroom, tobacco, leather along with a sous-bois that holds it all together. The finish has red florals, spice, dried fruit and light herbs.
Later - this is such a delicious sipping and contemplative wine. It went extremely well with a 4 cheese pizza but just sitting and sipping now it is so engaging and comforting. All of the elements in the flavour profile have joined into one glorious meld. Should be a 94 but I’ll stick with the 93.

  • Great black fruit up front. Integrated tannins, nice floral hints on the finish.

  • Nose of sweet earth and black raspberry. A touch of acid on the mid palate. Lots of sour black cherry, a good tannic finish. Cultured and potent, a nice Tuscan, still enough stuffing for a couple years.

  • Very, very good! But still a baby.

  • Clear dark garnet core med intensity, Clean nose of damp earth, mushroom, sour cherry and that indefinable 'Italian' nose. Dry with med+ acid, med alcohol, body and (ripe) tannin. Flavours of sour cherry, spice, and chokecherry. Ripe fruit flavours with good balance auger well for this wine. Drinkable now but able to hold and develop another 5 - 8 years.
