  • My first sample in some time of one of the top end Ratti bottlings. This certainly reflects the cooler, more difficult vintage but retains a good personality. Clear, medium ruby in the glass with just a touch of garnet at the rim. The nose is expressive but delicate with lots of fresh rose, liquid cherry, crushed stone, violet, blueberry and a touch of licorice. The palate is beautifully pure with wonderful red and black fruit definition, texture and balance. The earthy, savoury finish still feels like it needs some time to knit together but the acidity and tannins are heading towards being nicely resolved. However, I did expect a little more complexity and depth overall. Right now this is quite closed but still promising. I'd give it another 2-3 years in bottle and then enjoy over the following 10+

  • Really nice barolo for a very good price. Still a bit sharp but after a good swirl a really nice wine. Might need a few more years but to me, it's already a treat. Fresh with berries and spice. A little alcohol in the nose if not aired enough but after a while it gets smooth and a true pleasure
