I was surprised by this wine. Knowing Roncaglie from Poderi Colla I had set expectations from a wine from Roncaglie. I guess that my expectations have not been met. Nothing of the refinement of Roncaglie, no trace of its smoothness. Rather a quite muscular wine, in which the barrique has a say. Sure, clearly the barrique is not new and that is evident. However, I thought that the treatment in the cellar masks the fruit of this wine. This bottle is not ready to be consumed now. It needs a couple of years in the bottle but I think that the fruit of Roncaglie is compromised by the winemaking.
Quite deep ruby. Nose of dark berries and wood notes. On the palate the fruit is overtaken by the wood notes. Tannins quite grippy and a bit green at this point. Overall impression of a wine that went through some gym to increase its weight. From a mere technical standpoint the wine is executed correctly, however I do not think that the wine-making style conforms well to this cru (assuming the fruit from this wine comes from Roncaglie, but that is what the producer's website suggests).

Brownish color. Taste is very mellow with a bit of tar and rose petals. Quite enjoyable.
