  • Two characteristics jump out here: the intense red fruitiness and the - somewhat rough - tannins. Other, more minor impressions are the candied nature of the fruit, a bit of a rustic, Italian identity and some floral flavours. On the whole it is just a tiny bit sweet for me to classify it as a great barbaresco. Enjoyable it is indeed and variety specific as well, yet overall it does not leave a lasting impression.

  • I found the '16 vintage outstanding for its price. Made in an approachable fashion, yet preserving purity of fruit without overpowering oak. It's softer on tannins, yet excellent acidity compared to more traditional barbaresco I've had of similar vintages. I had this before food at a restaurant, and finished half the bottle before the antipasti even arrived, so I'd say this wine can stand on its own but also pairs very well with the ossobucco that came after. Recommended.
