  • Should be noting in my tasting notes (given previous notes) that for all of these old Cardinales they were very drinkable to me. Old Napa. Perhaps heading towards the end of drinking window, but were always a bit more muted in style which I like. We were drinking them next to an 86 Margaux and that was the winner for sure, but each of these was nice and I'd certainly welcome the chance to drink again. End of night wine so not as detailed in the notes.

  • Gave to LL to taste and review - We opened this bottle with fingers crossed, only to be let down. It was definitely drinkable, DLD actually liked it, remarking how smooooth it had become after 22 years. I say blah, why suffer through it when there are better options. The nose showed restrained aeromatics, with just a hint of licorice coming through. The color was surprisingly decent, still deep after all these years. While the wine didn't taste oxidized or even too over the hill, it just lacked fruit, and the finish was almost non-existent. It was just so-so in my book.
