Nose: white flower, caramel, hints of citrus, orange zest, stone fruit Notes: quite a steely and lean in palate but this has a pretty gentle and elegant nose. This surely is on the acidic side and I think the aftertaste is quite uninteresting. Maybe this will require a couple more years but I can't say this is too interesting for me at this moment. The Butteaux from Raveneau is, in my opinion, the most expressive wine of his Chablis. The expression, complexity that he achieves with Butteaux is truly top-notch. The 2017 is razor sharp, a perfect balance between the nose and the palate, what a beautiful long fine acidity, even after 2 hours in the glass it was still there! Initially, I got apple on the nose, which over time turned into pineapple, but also citrus, lime, and the wine was also so sharp on the palate, what a success

From the outset this was just lovely and open for business, multi-layered, multi-dimensional wine with a complex citrus mineralite and great length that just continued to build with air. Sensational!

I've only been lucky enough to have a handful of Raveneau; this was the first Butteaux. Opened far too cold, but even after several hours it still seemed quite reticent and lacking, to the point that I wondered if this might be in a bit of a dumb phase.
We saved 1/3 of the bottle, and revisited 3 days later, and wow -- there is the Raveneau we were looking for. Energetic, powerful, and enrapturing, an incredible white burgundy if not quite as impressive as the Montee de Tonnerre's I've tasted. 92+ now, 94-96 in the future.

One of those rare moments when you are probably the only table in restaurant in town of Margaux not drinking fine Bordeaux, but there is a reason… €115 for Raveneau Butteaux, beyond comprehension, an exhilarating experience. The most prominent Chablis producer mostly consists of PC & GC tiny plots, just like Butteaux of 1.5ha 50 year old vines. Pale lemon colour green hue. Intense and complex aroma of lime peel, apple, oyster shell, lemon oil, jasmine, peaches, chalk, stone, iodine. Medium body, concentrated and complex with divine tightly knit high acidity intervention, multifaceted saline mineral flavours of shells, stones, chalk, green fruits with tropical touches, everlasting finish.
