Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Lets start this one as if it was one of my 'normal' tasting notes.....
Brick red color clearly evolving towards amber/rust. A full complex bouquet of dried plum, ripe blackberries, tobacco and cedar after some time really jumping out of the glass. Following trough full bodied and smooth on the palate with ripe fruit. But still fresh and vivid and very balanced. very long finish.

But it was far from the 'normal' bottle. Today was my birthday, and the grapes of which this beautifull wine has been made where growing at that day, 37 years ago. Amazing that this wine is still so full of character. I'm not experienced with old wines. Most of my 'older' wine experiences don't go beyond 15 years. This bottle has once and for all confirmed for me that Brunello di Montalcino is a real classic.
While tasting and drinking this wine I also learned a lot about how the clasic wines of this DOCG like Biondi Santi, Barbi, Soldera can evolve. And how their unapproachable character at release is the foundation for a long life ahead.

I told my family and friends that opening this bottle was like opening a small piece of history about my birthday. History conserved in this bottle. It was a great experience to drink this wine. And it will remain a great memory, conserved in my own mind......
