Bottles like this remind me about how great the individualism of wine is. First things first, the plot - Musigini - is across the road from Musigny and I was intrigued as to whether or not this would be stylistically closer to Clos Vougeot or Musigny. I got that answer after decanting this bottle for an hour and a half...
The nose was definitely one of the more unique noses that I've experienced in my time drinking Burgundian wine as, even after a decant, it was mint dominated (someone even equated it to 5 Gum) with a very mild raspberry and tobacco undercut. The palate, though, showed how characteristically Clos Vougeot this was. Boasting an upfront packed with tart raspberries, tobacco, cedar wood and mint, the mid-palate introduced some maturity through tertiary components of mushrooms and moss before a fuller, silky finish of cassis, jam and licorice ensued. As a whole, this is just hitting its stride. We all agreed with a longer decant this could hit a 95-96 so I'll leave it as a 94+ right now.

This particular bottle has been cellared for over 12 years. Initially, it exhibits a stone-hard and complete shut-down character in the first few hours. However, with almost 5 hours of breathing, it gradually reveals a delightful and subtle aroma of red cherries, accompanied by undertones of Vougeots dirts lingering in the background.
On the palate, the wine impresses with its good balance, displaying a poised and well-integrated structure. While it may not possess an overwhelming sense of excitement or exuberance, it presents a harmonious composition that beautifully showcases the wine's maturity and evolution over time. The interplay between the various elements results in an enjoyable tasting experience.

NR. Don’t know how I feel about this wine. Amazing nose but very confrontational heavy gunsmoke bacon palate. Like a small yappy dog with a big bite.
