Nose: red flowers, cherry, earthy Notes: drank side by side with a 2004. It is a rare occasion that I would prefer the sun-kissed 2003 over any other vintages. Usually the 03s would be a little too un-burgundy for my liking but I am guessing this is a rare exception to that. Highly aromatic and showing very nicely now, the wine is actually quite balanced and although you can feel the heat of the vintage but it didn't affect the overall profile of the wine at all. I'm impressed by this time. It is drinking at a good spot now and definitely more superior than its 2004 counterpart. No signed of tiredness in the wine so I'm guessing this should be able to last for another decade. Drink: Now + Rating: 91

I love the Musigni. Definitely drinks more like a Musigny (across the road) than most Clos Vougeot. A little chalky on the nose, and a distinctive feminine nose, a little rounded on the palate. Just lovely. I think the Musigni is great value.

'03 was a challenging year all over France (and Europe) with enourmous heat and drought. This has resulted in many hot wines with high alcohol and dry tannins. This is clearly, but not extremely, marked by the vintage. Quite aged colour with orange tones, but a nice purple core. Intense aromas of ripe cherries, warm earth and some chocolate, but also with some awkward tones of burnt wood and alcohol. Full bodied, smooth and welcoming in the mouth, no harsh tannins. Good acidity, fine tastes of ripe cherries, some prunes and some raisins. Even if the fruit is quite impressing, the alchol shines through in the end, and the same does the rather burnt tones of wood. A good wine, but not qualifying as a good grand cru. Somewhat disappointing, but - hey! - still a good wine. With the price escalation of grand crus in the last years, such wines are out of my reach now. Tasting this wine makes the loss bearable.

Blind Burgundy Tasting (Chateau Craigs): from magnum nose - per cindy, like opening up and old cedar chest..., per brian ...and finding a bunch of mouse droppings. Musky, and with time developed quite the nose of stinky sock - overall the nose is a touch unpleasant. mouth - restrained dark cherry fruit and increasingly with time a heavy soy sauce component. good minerality and still tannic. quite savory, and doug even commented 'umami'. decant and drink with a chunk of meat.

Dry River Pinot Noir Vertical Tasting and a few others (Le Petit Sommelier): The nose shows a few red fruits but mostly loads of Brett funk, earthy notes and iodine. It will clear up after a while. The palate is balanced, spicy, gamey with a long finish. Outstanding quality but drink up
