2017 reds with Jasper Morris MW (67 Pall Mall TV): H-B are firmer with extraction than many Chambolle growers, although are cutting back on new oak. Charmes is arguable the best 1er after Amoureuses. Yes, this wine's destemmed.
A properly dark purple core to this - but JM says Chambolle is often dark in colour even if it lives up to its reputation for elegance. Rather creamy and juicy on the nose, with something slightly exotic and something heady. You can feel the extraction on the palate too, as this wine is properly grippy, although it retains a spine of acidity and a silky body. Another wine with a spicy finish. Needs food, and for my taste somewhat facile compared to the other wines tonight.

Rich sweet red fruit and minerals. Dense mouthfeel. Lovely wine, and would deserve a higher score, but the wood tannins have a drying effect right now. We have to wait and see if they integrate. Drinks well with food today thanks to the abundant fruit and fresh acidity. 91
From re-corked and gassed bottle after a few days, the wine is fantastic. This has a tight and dense core of cherries that needs a few years to open up, but there is no harm in opening a bottle today. The tannins are gentle. I raised my score.

Night before WJ-HB Zoom session. Few hours of air in bottle. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, very pale intensity, clear ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of airy red florals, red cherries, red plums. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), rounded supple medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, red plums, sweet earthiness, savoury herbs, chalky minerals, light warm spice. Plump long finish. Very good quality. So young but so damm drinkable already. Quintessentially Chambolle-Musigny 1er. So cliche to actually say it - a very charming Charmes.

Still lots of primary dark fruit, polished palate, tannins well managed here. This will do well in ca 3-5 years.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Walk around tasting. Big step up. Bright red cherry with both sweet and lean nuances and good weight. 89-90 point potential.
