Perfect level and cork. Bottle stink on first opening, then a disappointingly flat and acidic nose. Same on tasting. But left to itself for a couple of hours it gained some interest -- still acidic and leathery, but integrated and acceptable, although without any length. I doubt there is scope for great improvement from here, but you never know. My '93 Volnays have only recently begun to sing, but they are certainly better wines than this NSG. Unfortunately I have several more of these, so will leave them for another 2 years and then try again.

Cork was slightly depressed, but no signs of seepage. Red fruits, acids, flowers., But there’s just a hint of pruniness that makes me wonder if it’s seen warmth. B-/C+

1993 Burgundy at the Ledbury (The Ledbury): Dark, masculine and tannic. Rich, full bodied and chewy. This is an immaculate wine, still apparantly in its early youth. dg+

Tasting of 8 Pinot Noir. Nose of barnyard, pinot, bacon, and spice, more of the same on the palate, best of Old World and New World, medium/big body, tasty, will peak in 4 years, long, long, flavorful finish. My #1, Group #3.

Acids, tannins, not too friendly right now. John with more experience thinks it just needs time, will wait on others. Judgement reserved
