Such a wonderful drinking experience. Tasted with great friends over a nice dinner. A lovely earthy pinot color showing early signs of age. Slight perfumed aromas (hibiscus) without being overly powerful. River stones and cool fruit, coming forward with subtle cranberry and soft cherry. Lots of finesse here. Some faint licorice adds to its depth. Not one that I would call powerful, but one with grace in its complexity.

Sample from J. Poured from freshly popped bottle into sealed glass vial. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of red flowers, fresh leather, chalk minerality, ripe stems, ripe red cherries, strawberries. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), soft entry but ultimately chewy medium+ tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of menthol, touch of vanilla oak, chalky stones minerality, ripe red cherries, strawberry, fresh leather, emerging meatiness with more air. Long chewy finish. Very good quality wine. Though not quite a classic Rugiens for me as it seems to be missing the iron minerality. Oak needs time to integrate.

Leather lies as a veil over more subtle and delicate cherries, pepper, and some earthiness. It combines elegance and power brilliantly. Long ending with integrated tannins.
