Samples from Bill #13: Olives, violets, boysenberry, cocoa and warm peppery spices on the nose. Palate is plush but maintains a savoury, spicy edge to it. Very good length and depth here, it has a large fruit profile but finds excellent balance. A winner.

Decanted 3 hours ahead of broiled sirloin and baked potatoes. Dark, purple-crimson color. Floral nose with deep violets, roses, white pepper, and beef stock. The palate is medium, dense, and textured, bringing a hard core of black/blue fruit mixed with high-toned red fruit, leather, tobacco, olives, charcoal, and crushed gravel into a tannic finish. Better with food. Will be best 2026-2036. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 92.

Decanted for 5 hours. Brooding purple color. Lovely dark fruits on the nose, violets, olives. The mouth is surprisingly balanced and fruit-forward, but at the same time quite restrained. This was part of a 9 vintages of Clape tasting, and the other bottles showed that this 2018 will need more time.
