1994 WILLIAMS SELYEM RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY PINOT NOIR- recently Burt Williams told me it was their policy to fill all bottles close to the cork and upon inspection, this bottle was very close, a good sign of provenance from the source I purchased it from; the aromatics were awesome; I got cinnamon, clove and smoke with cranberry/ red cherry fruit; the taste profile had strawberry and a bit of tart red cherry and was a treat; the texture was soft and supple and it held on for a long finish; it actually improved over time and balanced out and into more greatness.

Wonderfully elegant and youthful with significant bricking. Tannins fully resolved, but the acidity balances this wine perfectly. Not terribly complex, but everyone I drank this wine with agreed it was the WOTN (up against an 89' La Grand Dame). Perfectly stored since release, I think this wine has several years of life left, but why wait? It was slightly cloudy, but I found that endearing. Popped and poured.

Purchased on release. Dried dark cherries on the nose. Spices, meaty, stewy, some tomato, definitely a bit of heat. Excellent on the palate - stewy, meaty sauvage that morphs into pretty strawberry-cherry fruit. Elegant and silky with nice acid spine. Tannins completely resolved. Finish shows meat-spice-strawberry with a touch of cola. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16.5/20.

aged profile, subtle, not as complex as other W-S bottles from this era
