Deep, rich and earth. Opens well and continues to get more supple over the hour or so we drank it. A really delicous wine. Hand describes it really well below. Most of my '97s seemed to be pretty closed down in '04 so I held them. Drinking them now.

WOW. The '97 Burgundies are amazing. They had mixed reviews early, but have become outstanding wines. This wine is big and bold and is an absolutely huge mouthful of taste. This wine can stay in the bottle another 5 years, or be drunk now.

Bright ruby colour – medium dark; fully aromatic – sweet cherry, candied raspberry and a slightly pleasing hint of oak; round and rich on the palate – smooth entry, with a mouthful of cherry flavour – some light spice notes; just enough acidity to give the wine some vigor; tannins very light, and those present fall well beneath the fruit; pleasing medium long fruit driven finish. Partnered the tenderloin of beef extremely well. Not likely to get a lot better, but attractive and will hold for a few years yet.
